Question 1

How much does a chimney sweep cost in Bay Terraces and nearby?

Accepted Answer

Pricing depends on the type of chimney, how heavily it's used, and whether there's anything unusual inside, like animal nesting or heavy creosote. We give free written estimates before any work begins, and the price you're quoted is the price you pay. No upsells pushed after we arrive. Call (833) 756-1092 and we'll walk through what to expect for your specific home.

Question 2

How often should a chimney be swept?

Accepted Answer

For an actively used wood-burning fireplace, once per year. If you only burn occasionally, every two years can be enough, but an annual inspection is still wise. Gas fireplaces need less frequent sweeping but should be inspected periodically for venting issues. Homes in windier areas like Encanto or on shaded hillsides like La Mesa may need a little more frequent attention because debris accumulates faster.

Question 3

Do I really need a new liner?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. We never recommend a liner replacement without showing you camera footage of the existing liner first. If the clay tiles are cracked or the metal liner has rusted through, that's a legitimate repair. If it's just dirty, a sweep fixes it. We'd rather tell you it can wait than sell you work you don't need. Call (833) 756-1092 to schedule an inspection and you'll see exactly what we see.

Question 4

What actually happens if I skip a sweep?

Accepted Answer

Creosote builds up inside the flue and becomes a fuel source. If it ignites, that's a chimney fire, and it can crack flue tiles, damage the chimney structure, and in the worst cases spread into the house. A blocked flue also sends carbon monoxide back into the living space instead of up and out. This isn't theoretical; we see the aftermath in every city we serve. A sweep is far cheaper than the alternative. Get on our calendar at (833) 756-1092.

Question 5

Can you inspect a chimney before I buy a house?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We do pre-purchase chimney inspections throughout our service area, including Downtown San Diego, Chula Vista, and National City. We'll send you the camera report and photos so you can share them with your agent and make an informed decision. This is one of the best ways to avoid inheriting an expensive chimney problem.

Question 6

What is HeatShield and do I need it?

Accepted Answer

HeatShield is a cerfractory sealant product that can repair and restore damaged flue liners in some situations, particularly in older masonry chimneys where clay tiles have developed small cracks. It's not a fit for every problem, and we'll only suggest it when camera inspection shows it's the right solution for your chimney. If it is appropriate, it can save you from a full liner replacement and the cost that comes with it.

Question 7

Are you licensed and insured?

Accepted Answer

Every professional working under the Chimney Sweep Bay Terraces name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. We're happy to provide proof of coverage before any work begins. Just ask the coordinator when you call.
